"As the sun breaks through the mist in an old oak forest, a great horned owl, perched on a ball of moss and ferns, is caught in a beam, suddenly aware of light and warmth. This is more a painting of light than a painting of an owl; it was the beams of light that inspired me to paint this scene. I included the owl, a bird of the night, as an element of contrast.
