On the cover of his book, and also in the movie, a statue of Bird Girl was featured. I have had the good pleasure of spending many wonderful nights in a beautiful bed and breakfast in Fuqua-Varina, North Carolina and in their garden they have a replica of that very statue. When I was photographing it, a female cardinal sat on one side. I knew there was a painting idea in the making.
